Butter Horns
5 c. flour
1/2 c. lard
1/2 c. butter
1 c. warm milk
3 eggs
1/2 t. salt
1/2 c. sugar
1 oz. pkg yeast
1/4 c. warm water
Mix flour, butter, lard and salt as you would for pie crust. Beat eggs, add sugar and beat some more. Dissolve yeast in 1/4 c. warm water. Combine with the warm milk, and add flour mixture. Knead and place in warm place to rise.
Now make nut filling:
1 c. almonds
1 c. sugar
2 T. butter
Grated rind of 1/2 lemon
1 t. almond extract.
Combine butter and sugar, add nuts and eggs to make a paste. Roll dough thin. Spread with soft butter and nut filling. cut into triangular pieces and roll starting from the large end. Put into pans and let rise again.
Bake 15 minutes at 375 degrees.
