    Ethnic: Irish Soda Bread

    List of Ingredients

    5 1/2 Cups Flour
    1/2 Cup Sugar
    3 Tsp. Baking Powder
    1/2 Tsp. Baking Soda
    1/2 Tsp. Salt
    1/4 Cup Butter
    2 Cups Buttermilk
    1 Egg


    Recipe

    Combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt in mixing bowl. Cut in butter until mixture is crumbly (butter soft). Combine buttermilk and egg- add to dry ingredients stirring until blended. Turn out on floured board. Knead until smooth. Divide dough in half, shape each half into approximately 5" wide x 7" long.

    Put both loaves into one well greased 13" x 9" x 2 pan. Score a 4" cross on top of each loaf. Sprinkle with flour. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes.
