1 cup sour milk, buttermilk, OR
Milk & 1 T Lemon Juice
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup butter -- softened
1 cup sugar
4 eggs
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup Raisins
Recipe
Preheat oven to 500¼F. Grease and flour 1 full size cookie sheet or 2 13x9 pans. Place baking soda in milk. Set aside. Sift flour, salt & baking powder. Set aside. Separate 2 eggs, save yolks. Mix softened butter, sugar, 2 eggs and 2 egg whites in a bowl. Add milk/baking soda and raisins to butter/sugar/egg mix. Hand mix flour mix into wet ingredients. Spread dough onto cookie sheet or pans 1/2" thick. Beat 2 remaining egg yolks. Hand spread yolks over top of dough. Sprinkle granulated sugar or cinnamon sugar over the dough & yolk. Bake for 8 or 9 minutes, until golden brown.
