Coffeecake: Bob's Sour Cream Coffeecake

2 sticks (1 cup) margarine, at room temperature
4 large eggs
2 1/4 cups granulated sugar, divided
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups sour cream
2 teaspoons pure vanilla
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
2 tablespoons chopped nuts
Recipe
Grease a 10-inch tube pan. Heat the oven to 350 degrees.
In a mixing bowl, combine the margarine, eggs and 2 cups sugar and beat until fluffy.
Meanwhile, in another bowl, mix the flour, sour cream, vanilla, baking powder and soda. Add to the margarine mixture and mix well.
Combine the cinnamon, if desired, chopped nuts and remaining 1/4 cup sugar. Reserve a little of this mixture to sprinkle on top of the cake.
Turn half of the batter into the prepared baking pan. Sprinkle the nut mixture on top, then cover with the remaining batter. Sprinkle the reserved nut mixture on top.
Bake for 50 to 55 minutes, then let sit for 5 minutes before turning out onto a serving plate.
