Coffeecake: Crunchy Coffee Kuchen

Recipe Introduction
This was one of my bosses, Cecil Goodspeed's favorites. His ancestors came over on the Mayflower! I used to make this for him at Christmastime. He said it was the best coffee cake he'd ever had.
List of Ingredients
1 cup unsifted all purpose flour
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
11/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1 1/2 cups POST Raisin Bran
1 tsp. Maxwell House instant coffee
2/3 cup milk
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/4 cup pecans, chopped
Recipe
Combine flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon and salt in a bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture is crumbly. Add cereal. Reserve 1/3 of the mixture;set aside. Add instant coffee to remaining flour mixture. Stir in milk and egg; blend thoroughly. Pour into greeased and floured 9-inch pie pan. Sprinkle reserved mixture on batter; the sprinkle with peacans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes or until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean. Serve warm.
