    Bars: Meringue Chocolate Nut Bars

    List of Ingredients




    Bottom crust:
    1/2 cup light brown sugar
    1/3 cup softened butter
    1 1/3 cups sifted all-purpose flour
    1/2 teaspoon Clabber Girl Baking Powder

    Meringue layer:
    1 cup granulated sugar
    2 eggs
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    1/2 teaspoon salt
    1 cup chopped nuts
    1 cup semi sweet chocolate chips

    Recipe



    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.; Cream together light brown sugar and butter. Sift flour and baking powder and stir into creamed mixture. It will look crumbly. Press into bottom only of greased 13x9x2-inch baking pan.

    Bake 8 minutes. While crust is baking, beat together sugar, eggs, vanilla and salt until very thick and lemon-colored. Fold in nuts and chips gently and spread over crust. Bake 18-20 minutes longer.

    Cool and cut into 15 bars.

    Storage: in cooler, covered with saran wrap.
