Bars: Oatmeal Chocolate Bars

Filling:
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 cup (6 ounces) chocolate chips
1 5 1/3-ounce can evaporated milk
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup chopped nuts
Cookie Base:
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups quick oats
Recipe
To prepare filling: In a heavy saucepan combine butter, chocolate chips, evaporated milk and sugar. Bring to a rolling boil, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir in nuts and cool.
To prepare cookie base: Cream butter and sugar. Add egg and vanilla and beat until light and fluffy. Stir in flour, baking soda and 1 3/4 cups of the oats until well blended.
Press 2/3 of this mixture into the bottom of a buttered 9-inch square pan. Spread with cooled chocolate filling.
Mix remaining 1/4 cup oats with remainder of cookie base and crumble over filling.
Bake at 350 degrees F for 25 to 30 minutes.
