Recipe Introduction
"Very few taste combinations are so readily embraced as chocolate and peanut butter. Not only are these very rich brownies one of the best tasting things in the universe, the contrast of the peanut butter and chocolate is very striking and elegant. They make very attractive gifts, and are the perfect addition to any cookie tray. That is, if they make it that far."
List of Ingredients
Fudgies
3/4 cup unsalted butter
3 ounces unsweetened baking chocolate, chopped
3 large eggs
1 1/3 cups dark brown sugar
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Peanut Butter Ribbon
1 cup peanut butter
1/3 cup sugar
4 teaspoons flour
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
8 tablespoons light cream
Recipe
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and lightly grease and flour a 9 by 13 inch baking pan. Melt the butter and chocolate in a microwave or above a double boiler until smooth. Set aside to cool slightly. In a large bowl mix together the eggs, brown sugar, and vanilla. In a small bowl whisk the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. Gradually stir the cooled chocolate mixture into the egg mixture until well blended. Slowly add the flour mixture and mix well. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
Peanut Butter Ribbon:
Beat together in a small bowl peanut butter, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and cream until well blended. Place in a pastry bag or plastic bag and using a medium tip, or by snipping off a corner, squeeze lines on the brownies paralell to the short side of the pan until you have used up all of the peanut butter mixture. Take the edge of a spoon and or spatula and draw through the lines perpendicularly, almost touching the bottom of the pan with the spoon. Move over 1 inch and repeat, starting at the opposite side of the pan to get ribbons that bend in opposite waves. Repeat until the whole pan is ribboned. Bake for about 25 minutes, or until the brownies are firm. Cool completely in the pan before cutting into desired shapes. Store in an airtight container or freeze.
