Bars: Chocolate Chip Bars

1/2 cup butter or margarine
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon each baking soda and salt
One 12 oz. package semi sweet chocolate pieces (divided)
1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts or 1/2 of both
Recipe
Cream butter or margarine and sugar. Add egg, milk and vanilla. Beat well.
Sift together flour, baking powder, soda and salt. Add to creamed mixture. Stir in chocolate pieces and nuts. Spread in a greased 9x9x2 inch pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. After 20 minutes baking, spread the other 6 ounces of chocolate pieces. Put back in the oven for 5 minutes, remove from oven. Very lightly, spread chocolate pieces that have melted. Try not to disturb cookie dough too much.
Put back in the oven the remaining 10 to 15 minutes. Cool, cut into bars.
YIELD: 32 Bars
NOTE: If recipe is doubled, use a 15x10 inch pan and spread cookie dough the same way.
