Ethnic: Swedish Pepparkakor Cake

3⁄4 cup butter
1 1⁄2 cups sugar
5 eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
21⁄4 cups flour
11⁄2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
5 teaspoons cinnamon
21⁄2 teaspoons cardamom powder
11⁄2 teaspoons ginger powder
3⁄4 teaspoon ground cloves
11⁄2 cups sour creamRecipe
Preheat oven to 325 F.
Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in eggs, then the vanilla.
Sift together dry ingredients and blend into butter mixture alternately with sour cream, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.
Spoon batter into greased and lightly floured bundt or tube pan, or two loaf pans.
Bake at 325 for about 1 hour; check earlier if baking in loaf pans. Cool in pan 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool on rack. Dust cake with powdered sugar and serve.
Yield: 1 cake or 2 loaves
