    Gingerbread: GRANDMA'S Molasses

    List of Ingredients


    • 1 stick of butter
    • 1/2 cup sugar
    • 1 cup Grandma's Molasses
    • 1 egg
    • 2 1/4 cups flour
    • 1/2 tsp salt
    • 2 tsp baking POWDER
    • 1 tsp baking SODA
    • 2 tsp ginger
    • 2 tsp cinnamon
    • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
    • 1 cup BOILING water
    • Optional:
    • 1 tsp grated orange zest
    • 1/2 cup walnuts


    Instructions


    1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.

    2. Beat butter with sugar and molasses. Stir in egg.

    3. Sift all dry ingredients into a separate bowl and add to wet mixture, alternately with the hot water until just combined.

    4. Bake in greased 9-inch square pan for 40 minutes.

    5. Let cool. I sprinkle Confectionery sugar on top.
