Gingerbread: Gold Label Gingerbread

List of Ingredients
2 cups flour
1 1/2 level teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup lard (or vegetable shortening)
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup buttermilk
Recipe
Sift the flour once, measure and sift again three times with baking powder, spices and salt.
Cream lard and sugar, add eggs and mix well.
Combine molasses and baking soda and add to lard mixture. Add dry ingredients and milk alternately. Keep in covered dish in refrigerator until ready to bake.
Bake in two greased (9-inch) layer cake pans at 350 degrees F for 30 minutes.
