Spice: Sugar ‘n Spice Cake

3/4 cup butter
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
3 eggs
2-1/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 tablespoon vinegar
milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Spicy Buttercream Frosting (recipe follows)

Cream butter; gradually add sugars, beating well at medium speed of electric mixer. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.
Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and cloves; set aside. Combine vinegar and enough milk to equal 1 cup. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture alternately with milk mixture.
Mix just until blended; stir in vanilla.
Grease two 9-inch round cake pans and line with wax paper; grease wax paper. Pour batter into prepared pans; bake at 350 for 30 to 35 minutes or until cakes test done.
Cool in pans 10 minutes. Remove from pans and cool completely on wire racks. Spread frosting between layers and on top and sides of cake.
Spiced Buttercream Frosting: Cream 1-1/2 cups butter (softened) at medium speed of an electric mixture; gradually add 4 cups powdered sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add 2 tablespoons orange juice, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves and beat until frosting may be spread easily.
