    Base:
    1/2 recipe of pie pastry *

    Filling:
    3 oz unsweetened chocolate
    1/3 cup butter
    3 eggs
    1 1/4 cups sugar
    1/8 tsp salt
    3 tbsp light corn syrup
    3 tbsp milk
    1 tsp vanilla

    Melt chocolate with butter in a double boiler until smooth. Beat eggs well. Add sugar, salt, corn syrup, milk and vanilla. Beat in chocolate. Pour into the pie shell and bake at 350F for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the top puffs and begins to crack. Cool, center of pie will fall slightly.

    * Pie Pastry:

    2 cups flour
    1/2 tsp salt
    2/3 cup shortening
    ice cold water

    This is about as basic a pie crust as you can get. Mix together the flour and salt. Rub in shortening either by hand or with a pastry blender. The shortening should be in the size of peas. Add the water a tablespoon at a time until the dough comes together. Do not overwork the dough or it will be tough. Gather dough into a ball and wrap with plastic wrap or wax paper. Let rest in the refrigerator
