    Holiday: Candy Cane Twists

    List of Ingredients

    3 1/4 Cup Sifted All Purpose Flour

    4 tsp Baking Powder

    1 Tsp Salt

    1/2 Cup (1 Stick) Butter

    1 1/4 Sugar

    1 Egg

    1/2 tsp vanilla

    1/4 Cup Milk

    Red Food Coloring



    Recipe

    Measure flour, baking powder and salt into a sifter.

    Cream butter and sugar until fluffy in a large bowl.

    Beat in egg and vanilla

    Sift in dry ingredients, a third at a time, adding alternately with milk, stir well until blended.

    Spoon half of dough into medium size bowl. Blend in a few drops of red food color to pink or light red. Leave the other half plain.

    Pinch off a a teaspoonful each of red and white dough at a time.Roll each into a strip about 4 or 5 inches long on a LIGHTLY floured board.

    Place the strips side by side and press the ends together. Then twist into a rope.

    You can shape into candy canes or circles. Place on a cookie sheet about 1 inch apart.

    Bake in moderate oven 350 for 10 minutes or until firm.

    Remove carefully from sheets and cool on wire racks.



    YIELD: About 5 Dozen
