    Recipe Introduction

You can make cookie houses year year for each of the holidays by tinting the dough with food coloring...green - St. Patty's Day, pastel - Easter, red - St. Valentine's Day.

    List of Ingredients

    Sift together:
    4 1/2 cups flour
    1/2 tsp salt
    1 tsp. baking soda
    Cream:
    1 1/2 cup sugar
    1 cup shortening
    3 eggs
    1 tsp vanilla
    1/2 tsp. lemon extract

    Recipe

Combine the sifted ingredients and the creamed mixture.
Divide the dough into 3 equal balls. Roll 1/4" thick on baking sheet. Front and back of the house on the first rolled section. The 2 sides bake end to end and also the chimney on the second sheet. The roof on the 3rd sheet.

(You probably have your own dimensioons from your gingerbread house.)

    Frosting to cement your house:
    2 1/2 cups powdered sugar
    1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
    2 egg whites
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
Sift together sugar and cream of tartar. Add egg whites and vanilla. Beat withan electric mixer until frosting holds its shape. Cover with a damp cloth when not using a portion.
