    Recipe Introduction

Here's a recipe for Sugar Cookies that doesn't require rolling out and cutting with cookie cutters. And they're pretty, too!

    List of Ingredients

    1 cup butter, softened
    1 cup granulated sugar
    1 large egg
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    2 cups all-purpose flour
    2 teaspoons baking powder
    1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup colored jimmies or nonpareils

    Recipe

In a large mixing bowl, beat together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. In another bowl, stir together flour, baking powder and nutmeg. Alternately add flour mixture and milk to butter mixture, beating until well combined. Divide dough in half. Shape each half into a 2-inch diameter log. Place a sheet of waxed paper on your countertop and sprinkle with half the jimmies or nonpareils. Roll one log in the jimmies until well coated. Wrap log in plastic wrap and stand upright in a large drinking glass. Place in refrigerator. Repeat with other half of dough and the remaining jimmies. Chill logs until firm, at least 3 hours. Preheat oven to 350 F. Line baking sheets with parchment paper or a non-stick baking mat. Remove logs from refrigerator and with a sharp knife, slice into 1/4-inch thick slices, rotating log a quarter turn after each cut. Place slices 1 inch apart on prepared baking sheets. Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until edges just start to turn golden. Allow to cool on baking sheets for 1 minute then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

    Makes about 48 cookies.
