    Steak and Shake Chili

    List of Ingredients

    1/2 c. flour
    1 T. chili powder
    3/4 tsp. cumin powder
    1/4 tsp. garlic powder
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. instant coffee powder
    1/4 tsp. powdered oregano
    3 T. brown sugar, packed
    1 qt. tomato juice
    1 1/2 lb. ground round
    3 T. oil
    1 small onion, chopped
    1/4 tsp. Accent, optional
    1 T. Hershey chocolate syrup
    2 lb. can red kidney beans, drained and rinsed

    Recipe

    Brown the flour in a dry heavy skillet until light brown. Remove at once and stir in the next 8 ingredients which have been sifted together at least 3 times. Transfer mixture to a 3-quart sauce pan.

    Add at once 1 qt. tomato juice, stirring until thickened and smooth; remove from heat and set aside.

    In the original skillet, brown the ground round in 3 T. oil. Add the chopped oinion and stir till well browned. Drain. Add the beef mix to the tomato juice mix, stirring in the chocolate syrup and optional Accent. Add the beans. Simmer on loweest heat about an hour to permit floars to blend well before serving.

    Freezes well up to 6 months and serves 6-8
