Recipe Introduction
"Our barnyard flock of chickens, ducks and geese provides us with an abundant supply of farm-fresh eggs. We have made custard our "signature dish." It can be served plain or topped with a variety of fruits or berries. We raise a wide variety of fruits on our working farm and use these fruits in our breakfasts."
List of Ingredients
1/2 cup sugar
4 cups milk and/or cream (whatever ratio preferred from skim milk to half-and-half cream)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon almond extract
5 eggs
nutmeg for top
Recipe
In oven-proof 1-1/2 quart baking dish, combine sugar and milk/cream. Scald in microwave oven for 10 minutes, stirring often to dissolve sugar. Meanwhile beat eggs in separate bowl. Add vanilla and almond extract. Slowly pour milk/cream mixture into beaten eggs. Return to 1-1/2 quart baking dish, set dish in pan of hot water and bake in oven at 325 degrees for approximately 1 hour, until silver knife inserted into center comes out clean. Sprinkle with nutmeg. Chill. Serve plain or topped with fresh fruit.
