    1 8oz. Pkg. Cream cheese
    2/3 C. sugar
    1 tsp. Finely shredded orange peel
    1 tsp. Vanilla
    ¼ tsp. Ground nutmeg
    ¼ tsp. Ground cinnamon
    4 eggs
    1 ½ C milk, half and half or light cream
    3 C. dry bread cubs (about 4 slices of bread)
    2 med. Pears, peeled, cored and thingly sliced (2 C)
    1/3 C miniature semi-sweet chocolate pieces
    1 tsp. Sugar
    1/8 tsp. Ground nutmeg
    1/8 tsp. Ground cinnamon

    Recipe



    In a large mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, 2/3 C sugar, lemon peel, vanilla, 1/3 tsp. Nutmeg, and ¼ tsp. Cinnamon with an electric mixer on low speed until smooth. Beat in eggs one at a time, beating just until combined after each addition.

    With a large spoon, stir in milk or cream, bread, pears, and chocolate. Pour mixture into an ungreased 1 qt. square baking dish, stirring gently to distribute chocolate. In a small bowl, combine remaining sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon. Sprinkle over pear mixture.

    Place dish in a 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan; set on oven rack. Pour hot water into the baking pan to a depth of 1 inch. (MAKE A BAIN MARIE)

    Bake in a 350° oven about 45 minutes or until knife inserted in custard near the center of the dish comes out clean. Serve warm or cool.

    YIELD: 9 Servings
