    1 cup bread crumbs
    1 cup sour milk
    1/4 cup shortening
    1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
    2 tablespoons molasses
    1/2 cup self-rising flour
    1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
    1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
    3/4 cup raisins
    1/2 cup finely chopped nuts

    Recipe



    In a small bowl, soak bread crumbs in sour milk for 30 minutes.

    Preheat oven to 300°F. Spray a 9-inch ring mold with non-stick vegetable spray.

    In a large mixing bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy; beat in molasses. Add flour and spices, stirring until well blended. Stir in bread crumb mixture, raisins, and nuts. Pour into prepared ring mold.

    Bake 40 to 45 minutes or until a tester inserted in the center comes out clean. Unmold onto a warm serving plate.

    SERVES 8
