    Fat Flush Plan

    Source of Recipe

3 Fat Chicks on a Diet
This summary was contributed by 3FC.

What is the author's theory behind this plan?
Ann Louise Gittleman has developed the plan with the base idea of flushing the liver, which she says is the most essential organ in the body needed to maintain weight loss. The goal is to flush the liver of toxins for optimal function, which will increase metabolism, speed weight loss and improve our overall health.

What is the carb limitation on this diet?
The diet is formulated to control insulin. To help achieve this, approximately 30 percent of the daily calories are from low glycemic fruits and veggies. The plan is similar to The Zone’s balanced 40-30-30 plan.

What are examples of the kind of food can I eat?
Essential fats, along with low glycemic fruits and veggies, lean meats and eggs, fish, whole foods and greens.

What are some of the foods that are definitely OUT?
Sugar, bread, white potatoes, and other refined carbs are not allowed. Saturated or trans fats, dairy, artificial sweeteners (stevia is ok) and caffeine are not allowed in the weight loss plan, but some are added back in moderation in the Lifestyle Eating Plan.

Do I need to count other things such as calories, protein, etc., or do I need to follow a formula or combination with my meal?
Each of the three phases is based on 1100-1500 calories a day. The first plan is the strictest, but the calories and choices increase as the plan continues. Herbs and spices mentioned in the recipes are necessary to include due to specific health benefits from the individual spices. A diluted cranberry juice will be drank 20 minutes before each meal, and dieters also drink warm water with lemon juice a couple of times a day.

Are there different phases of the plan? If so, what?
There are 3 phases. Phase 1 is the Two Week Fat Flush. This is a cleansing phase that will get rid of accumulated fats in the system and will prepare the body for future weight loss. This is the strictest phase of the plan with calorie restriction and a limited choice of food, but many times results in rapid weight loss. This plan can be extended beyond the 2 weeks.

Phase 2 is Ongoing Fat Flush. This phase has slightly more calories and carbohydrates. This is similar to Phase 1, with the addition of a portion of ‘friendly carbs’ each day.

Phase 3 is The Lifestyle Eating Plan. This phase adds more carbohydrates, such as potatoes and rice, along with dairy.

What are some of the more popular features of this plan?
Weight loss can be fairly rapid for some individuals. Many people like the liver cleansing properties of the plan. Meals are planned for you, and if you don’t want what is on the menu, then you can make a similar ingredient substitute.

What are some of the more UNappealing features of this plan?
Some people find it difficult to drink the required fluids. The Long Life Cocktail and the lemon juice and warm water might take an adjustment. The plan is fairly calorie restrictive.

What obstacles or difficulties might I encounter?
It can get expensive. Flaxseed oil, spelt bread and nutritional supplements are not very economical.

Sample menu for a typical day on this plan:
From the book, a Phase 1 menu. Second phase would be much like this, with the addition of a couple of low glycemic carbs each day:

    On arising: Long Life Cocktail

Before Breakfast: 8 ounces of hot water with lemon juice

Breakfast: Asparagus-mushroom omelet and one glass of cran-water

    Midmorning snack: ½ large grapefruit

20 minutes before lunch: One 8-ounce glass cran-water

Lunch: 4 ounces broiled chicken marinated in lime juice and cilantro, steamed Swiss chard and okra with ½ tablespoon flaxseed oil; shredded red and green cabbage with ½ tablespoon flaxseed oil; one 8-ounce glass of cran-water.

Mid-afternoon: 2-8 ounce glasses of cran water

    4pm snack: 1 pear

20 minutes before dinner: 1-8 ounce glass of cran water.

Dinner: 4 ounces broiled fish; marinated artichoke salad and steamed watercress and lemon

    Mid evening: Long Life Cocktail

A synopsis of the plan and any other information that may be of use!

Ann Louise Gittleman suggests that the Phase 1 of the plan may be too rigorous for dieters with kidney or liver disease, and other conditions. Please check with your doctor!

Journaling and measuring are very important.
