    Filling: Hammantach Filling (Poppy Seed)

    List of Ingredients

    1 cup Poppy seed
    Boiling water
    2 tablespoons Sugar
    1/4 cup Honey
    1 pinch Salt
    1/4 cup Sugar




    Recipe

    Pour boiling water over poppy seeds and let stand until cool (enough to at least cover); drain. Pound seeds well. Cook poppy seeds, sugar, honey, salt and water over moderate heat until thick, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and stir in chopped almonds. Cool.

    NOTE: You can also buy poppy filling in cans in the Pie Filling section or in bulk at a Jewish grocery (or Gourmet Food Shoppe)
