How to Run a Yankee Swap

    Source of Recipe

    Yankee Magazine December 2003
Invite every guest to bring a modest, wrapped present (perhaps use a theme, such as novels, specialty foods, hats, games, or CDs).

    1. Make numbered pieces of paper for the total number of guests and mix them in a bowl.

    2. Pass them around, each person choosing one.

    3. Whoever draws #1 can choose and open any gift.

    4. The person who draws #2 chooses a remaining present and opens it. #2 then decides either to keep that gift or trade for #1's , and so on down the line, with each person keeping or trading what they open until the last person opens the last present. That lucky person has the pick of them all. Or, according to a popular variation, #1 gets the final choice.
