Spring Cleaning of Your Refrigerator & Freezer

    Source of Recipe

    Ellie D.
---The temperature of these appliances is extremely important and should be verified by using appliance thermometers. Refrigerators should maintain a temperature of 40 degrees, and frozen food will hold it's top quality for the longest possible time when the freezer maintains 0 degrees F.

---To minimize waste and maintain food safety, you can apply many of the same principles we used to clean your cupboard to clean your refrigerator and freezer. Write the date on the label of every new salad dressing, condiment such as ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, relish, chutney, jam, etc. before you store it in the refrigerator. This will let you to know how old these items are.

---Like canned and boxed products, if you're in doubt about the length of time you've had something, or aren't sure if it's still safe to eat, throw it out.

---Store leftovers in clear containers so you'll remember what they are and use them within 3-4 days.

---Wipe up spills as they occur.

---When freezing anything, be sure to wrap it well and label it with the contents and date. Make sure to "rotate your stock" and use the oldest items first.
