    Christmas: Tree Trimming Delights

    Source of Recipe

    Selena McDevitt

    List of Ingredients

    1 cup butterscotch chips, melted
1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
    ½ cup granulated sugar
½ cup firmly packed light brown sugar
    1 egg
    2 teaspoons vanilla extract
    3 cups all-purpose flour
powdered egg white (equal to 2 fresh egg whites)
    1 box confectioners’ sugar
    2-3 teaspoons water
    silver dragees

    Recipe

In a medium bowl, combine butterscotch chips, butter, and granulated and brown sugars. Using an electric mixer set on high, beat mixture until fluffy. Reduce speed to low; beat in egg and vanilla. Stir in flour to form a dough.

Prepare egg whites as package directs. In a large bowl, combine egg whites and confectioners’ sugar until smooth. Add some water to thin icing, if necessary. Set icing aside until ready to decorate.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Divide prepared dough in half. Using a floured rolling pin, on a lightly floured surface, roll 1 half of dough to a ¼” thickness. Using the tree-shaped cookie cutter, cut out tree shapes. Sip cookie cutter in flour periodically to prevent the dough from sticking.

Place cutouts on ungreased baking sheets. Repeat with remaining dough, rerolling scraps as needed. Bake cookies until edges are lightly browned, about 8 minutes; cool completely before decorating.

Spoon icing into a pastry bag fitted with a fine tip. Pipe various designs onto cookies, such as dots, stripes, or zigzags. Using tweezers, gently place dragees onto icing designs; let set until dry.

To change these trees into evergreens, add a few drops of green food coloring to the dough before cutting into shapes.
