Recipe Introduction
The tradition of eating this "Drunken Soup" started in college and we still have it every New Years Day. The original recipe was printed in a newspaper but I have long forgot which one.
List of Ingredients
1 pound lentils, rinsed
1 quart beer
2 cups chicken broth
1 pound lean ground beef
1 cup cooked ham, cubed
1 pound smoke sausage or kielbasa, thinly sliced
1 cup chopped celery
1 cup chopped red onion
1 clove finely chopped garlic
1/2 teaspoon rosemary
1/2 teaspoon basil
1 cup sliced mushrooms
salt & pepper to taste
Recipe
In a pot combine lentil, beer, and broth.
Bring to a boil and simmer.
In a saucepan, crumble meat and brown. Drain off fat.
Add meat and remaining ingredients to the soup pot.
Cook about 1 hour or until tender.
Check for seasoning.
