    Orange Buttermilk Ice Cream

    2 cups whipping cream
    1 cup buttermilk
    1 cup goat's milk or buttermilk
    1 1/4 cups sugar
    5 egg yolks
    1/2 cup orange juice
    1/4 cup Grand Marnier or other orange liqueur or orange juice
    1 teaspoon minced fresh orange peel


    Recipe

    Bring cream, buttermilk, goat's milk and 3/4 cup sugar to simmer in heavy medium saucepan, stirring occasionally. Whisk yolks and remaining 1/2 cup sugar in medium bowl. Gradually whisk hot mixture into yoke mixture.


    Return mixture to sauce pan and stir over medium-low heat until custard thickens and leaves path on back of spoon when finger is drawn across, about 5 minutes; do not boil. Strain custard into bowl. Mix in orange juice, Grand Marnier and orange peel.

    Chill until cold. Transfer custard to ice cream maker and process according to manufacturer's instructions.

    Freeze in covered container.

    Makes about 6 1/2 cups.
