    Cat: Mackerel Loaf for Cats

    Source of Recipe

    Natural Paws

    Recipe Introduction

Canned mackerel makes a good occasional seafood for cats. Not only is it an economical protein source, but it comes from deep waters and is less likely to be polluted than fishes from areas closer to the coast. Cats can sometimes get addicted to seafood. If so, hold firm; it is important to feed them a variety of foods.

    List of Ingredients

2 15 oz. cans mackerel (or 3 6 oz. cans tuna in oil or 1/2 lb.+ cooked cod or other white fish)
    4 eggs
8 slices whole wheat bread, crumbled
    3 cups milk
    4 tablespoons Healthy Powder*
2 teaspoons bone meal (or 1200 mg calcium or 2/3 teaspoons eggshell powder)
    2 tablespoons vegetable oil
    5,000 i.u. vitamin A
    100-200 i.u. vitamin E

    Recipe

Blend egg, milk, and supplements together. Add the bread and mackerel and mix well. Serve raw or bake in a shallow dish at 350 degrees for about 20 minutes. Immediately freeze what cannot be eaten in 2-3 days.

    Grain Substitutes
    3 cups oatmeal (+1 1/2 cups rolled oats + 3 cups water)
4 cups cornmeal (=1 cup cornmeal or polenta + 4 cups water)
2 1/2 cups bulgur (1 cup whole wheat bulgur + 2 cups water)

Yield: About 6-8 days fare for an average cat.

*Healthy Powder Combine 2 cups nutritional yeast, l cup lecithin granules, 1/4 cup kelp or alfalfa powder, and 1/4 cup bone meal (or 9000 mg. calcium or 5 teaspoons eggshell powder). Optional: 1000 mg vitamin C (= 1/4 teaspoon sodium ascorbate) and 1 teaspoon garlic powder. (Refrigerate.)

    Yeast substitution:
Omit yeast, reduce bone meal to 5 teaspoons or calcium to 3200 mg. Add a complete dog or cat multivitamin supplement daily as recommended on the label.

    Kelp substitution:
Omit the kelp, add 3/4 tsp. iodized salt plus 1/4 cup Nature's Recipe Trace Minerals or alfalfa powder or montmorillonite.
