Recipe Introduction


Not at all a true shortcake, perhaps similar to a kuchen or muffin doughthis regional recipe is popularly topped with sautéed onions.



List of Ingredients




Dough:
2 cups baking mix ( boxed leading brand or use your own mix )
2/3 cup milk

Topping:
2 onions sliced
1/4 cup butter
1 tsp. salt
1 cup sour cream
1 egg --- fork beaten
1/4 cup grated cheese


Recipe



Prepare the topping above ( or your own- sauteed mushrooms are also great on this! ) by sauteing onion with butter until soft. Mix in salt, sour cream and egg. Set aside to cool. Mix baking mix and milk and spread dough into a greased 9 x 13 pan. Add the cooled topping evenly over dough. Sprinkle with cheese. Bake in a 350-F oven until golden about 25 minutes. Cut into squares to serve as a side dish.
