When Dad was living in Myrtle Beach, No. Carolina, he picked up this recipe. The peanuts have to be raw and can be ordered from the A & B Milling Co. at 1-800-843-0105. Ask for one 5 lb. bag of raw peanuts out of the shell with red skins still on.
Approx. cost: $6.95 + tax per bag.
Raw peanuts can be frozen if you want to stock up.
List of Ingredients
3 cups raw peanuts
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
Recipe
Put all ingredients into an iron frying pan. Cook on high heat.
Constantly stir with wooden spoon until all the water evaporates and turns to sugar.
Take off the stove at first sign of sugar formation but continue to stir until all peanuts are coated.
Pour peanuts into shallow pan or rimmed cookie sheet and put into a 300 degree oven for 30 minutes.
YIELD: 3 cups = 1 pound
Makes a great Christmas gift when packaged in a decorative tin.
