Mushrooms Turnovers
List of Ingredients
- 1 (8 oz.) package cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup butter or margarine
- 2 cups flour
- Filling:
- 1 1/4 pounds fresh mushrooms, cleaned and dried, and minced
- 1/2 medium size onion, minced
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon dry sherry
- 1/4 cup sour cream
Instructions
- Cream together cream cheese and butter; add 2 cups flour and form into a dough. (Can be done in processor. Careful to process only a very short time, until a ball of dough forms.)
- Divide into 3 balls of dough. Wrap each in plastic wrap and chill at least 1 hour.
- Saute mushrooms and onion in butter. Cook until most liquid is given up and evaporates.
- Stir in flour, salt,pepper and sherry. Cook until well blended.
- Remove from heat. Stir in sour cream and allow mixture to cool.
- Roll dough into a 1/8-inch thickness of lightly floured board. Cut out 3-inch circles.
- Place 1 teaspoon of filling on each, fold in half, stretching dough and crimping the edges.
- Make an egg wash of 1 egg yolk mixed with 1 tablespoon water. Brush turnovers before baking.
- Bake in 375 degree F oven for 15 to 20 minutes until golden brown.
