    Self - Frosting Cake

    List of Ingredients




    1/4 cup butter
    1/2 cup sugar
    4 egg yolks
    1/4 cup milk
    1 cup sifted flour
    1 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract
    2 teaspoons baking powder

    Recipe



    Cream butter and sugar till light and fluffy. Add beaten egg yolks with flavoring. Sift dry ingredients together and add alternately with milk to creamed mixture. Spread in well greased and floured 9 inch pan. Spread with meringue topping and bake in 350 degrees oven for 30 - 40 minutes.

    Meringue Topping:

    4 egg whites
    1 cup sugar
    1 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract
    1/2 cup nuts, chopped fine
    1/8 teaspoon salt
    1/8 teaspoon cream of tartar

    Add salt and cream of tartar to egg whites and beat till stiff. Then add sugar gradually with vanilla and beat till stiff. Spread on top of cake mixture.
