6 cups granulated sugar
3 cups water
3/4 teaspoons cream of tartar

Add a few drops of red food coloring. Place pan in hot water to keep from hardening. Begin dipping skewered apples or pears at once. Cool on greased surface.
Yield: 9 medium apples or pears.
