Peppermint Pinwheels
List of Ingredients
1 cup margarine or butter
1 cup powdered sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 teaspon almond extract
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon red food coloring
1 egg white (for topping)
1 tablespoon water
1/4 cup sugar (for topping)
1/4 cup finely crushed peppermint candyRecipe
Cream butter; add sugar gradually. Beat in egg and flavorings. Blend in dry ingredients. Divide dough in half. Mix food coloring into one half of dough. Chill dough till firm. Roll one half of white dough into an 8 inch square on floured pastry cloth. Do the same with the red dough. Place white square on top of red square. Roll as for jelly roll. Repeat with remaining dough. Wrap in waxed paper; chill overnight.
Cut into 1/8 inch slices. Place on greased cookie sheets. Make at 375 degrees 8-10 minutes. Mix egg white and water; brush on hot cookies. Sprinkle with sugar combined with candy canes and any hard candy. Makes 8 dozen.
