Apple Dumplings with Spicy Caramel Sauce

1-14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1-2 teaspoons water
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon almond extract
1 (11 ounce) package pie crust mix or pastry for 2-crust pie
6 medium apples, pared and coredRecipe
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Pour milk into a 9-inch pie plate. Cover with alluminum foil; place in shallow pan. Fill shallow pan with hot water. Bake 60-90 minutes or till thick and light caramel colored. Remove from oven. Add 1-2 teaspoons water (depending on how thick you like yours), cinnamon and extract. Set aside. Reduce oven temperature to 375 degrees. Prepare pie crust mix according to package directions. Divide pastry between 6 portions; roll each to a 6-inch square. Bring corners of pastry to center of apple; pinch edges together to seal. Place in shallow baking dish; bake 40 minutes or till apples are tender. Serve hot with warm Caramel Sauce. Serves 6.
