    Chocolate Caramel Sauce

    This sauce will last for about a month in the refrigerator, and can be held at room temperature for several hours for gift giving.

    4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate
    1 cup packed brown sugar
    1/8 teaspoon salt
    1 tablespoon butter
    1 cup light whipping cream
    1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

    Recipe



    Place the chocolate in a large heavy saucepan and melt over very low heat, stirring constantly, until the chocolate is smooth and melted. Mix in the brown sugar, salt, and butter. Cook, stirring constantly, until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves. Mix in the cream slowly, stirring constantly. Increase the heat to medium-low, and cook, stirring constantly, for four more minutes or until the sauce thickens slightly. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Serve warm, or cool to room temperature before serving. Store in a tightly sealed container in the refrigerator. Reheat over very low heat before serving.
    Makes 2 cups of sauce.
