Meatball Lover's Sandwich

List of Ingredients
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 cup milk
- 2 cups soft bread crumbs
- 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
- 1-1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 lbs. ground beef
- Sauce:
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp. butter or margarine
- 1 cup ketchup
- 2/3 cup chili sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
- 2 Tbsp. prepared mustard
- 2 tsp. celery seed
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. hot sauce
- 8 hoagie buns, split
- 1 large sweet onion, sliced
Instructions
- In bowl, beat eggs and milk. Stir in bread crumbs, chopped onion and salt. Add beef, mix well. Shape into 1-in. balls. Place in a lightly greased baking pan and bake, uncovered, at 375 for 15-20 minutes.
- In large saucepan saute butter and garlic. Add ketchup, chili sauce, b. sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, celery seed, salt and hot pepper sauce. Bring to a boil, add meatballs. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
- Carefully hollow out buns, leaving 1/2" shell. Spoon meatball mixture into bun; top with sliced onion and sliced cheese if you would like.
Final Comments
Sometimes I buy pre-made meatballs from the store. But this recipe's meatballs are really good!
