    Meatball Lover's Sandwich

    List of Ingredients


    • 2 eggs
    • 1/3 cup milk
    • 2 cups soft bread crumbs
    • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
    • 1-1/2 tsp. salt
    • 2 lbs. ground beef
    • Sauce:
    • 2 garlic cloves, minced
    • 1 tsp. butter or margarine
    • 1 cup ketchup
    • 2/3 cup chili sauce
    • 1/4 cup brown sugar
    • 2 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
    • 2 Tbsp. prepared mustard
    • 2 tsp. celery seed
    • 1/2 tsp. salt
    • 1/4 tsp. hot sauce
    • 8 hoagie buns, split
    • 1 large sweet onion, sliced


    Instructions


    1. In bowl, beat eggs and milk. Stir in bread crumbs, chopped onion and salt. Add beef, mix well. Shape into 1-in. balls. Place in a lightly greased baking pan and bake, uncovered, at 375 for 15-20 minutes.

    2. In large saucepan saute butter and garlic. Add ketchup, chili sauce, b. sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, celery seed, salt and hot pepper sauce. Bring to a boil, add meatballs. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 20 minutes.

    3. Carefully hollow out buns, leaving 1/2" shell. Spoon meatball mixture into bun; top with sliced onion and sliced cheese if you would like.



    Final Comments


    Sometimes I buy pre-made meatballs from the store. But this recipe's meatballs are really good!
