B.J.'s Chocolate Cake/Chocolate Pecan Frosting
Recipe Introduction
My daughter always asks for this cake. It is a family favorite.
List of Ingredients
- CAKE INGREDIENTS
- 1 stick BUTTER
- 1/2 cup Crisco Shortening
- 1 cup water
- 4 Tbsp. powdered cocoa
- 1 tsp. each of salt, baking soda and vanilla
- 2 cups each of flour and sugar
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- FROSTING INGREDIENTS
- 6 Tbsp. evaporated milk
- 1 stick butter
- 4 Tbsp. powdered cocoa
- 1 box powdered sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 cup pecans halves
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350% (325% if using glass pan) Grease and flour 9"x12" baking pan.
- CAKE: Place butter, crisco, water & cocoa in sauce pan and bring to a boil.
- Remove from heat and stir in remaining cake ingredients. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes
- ICING: Place milk, butter & cocoa in sauce pan and bring to a boil.
- Remove from heat and beat in powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth.
- Stir in pecans.
- Pour over HOT cake. Gently spread evenly.
Final Comments
This is very moist and keeps well.
