    Castile Soap

Makes 1 pound of castile soap..nice and gentle

    List of Ingredients

    10 cups tallow
    3 cups olive oil
    1 13 ounce lye
5 cups soft water ( distilled)

    Recipe

Warm fat until melted in iron or enameled pan..DO NOT USE ALUMINUM as it reacts with the lye!! Add olive oil...cool to 95 degrees. Disolve lye in cold water..cool the water/lye mixture to 95 degrees as well. Pour lye solution into fat in a thin steady stream, stirring slowly with a wooden spoon.Stir until mixture has a creamy thick , honey like texture...20 to 30 minutes. Set the pan in cool water and continue stirring. If mixture is lumpy, it is probably too cool. Set the pan in warm water and continue to stir until lumps disolve.
If soap has streaks of grease in it, or it is crumbly, it can be reclaimed by adding a small amount of water and dissolving it over low heat ..Stir occasionally..When soap appears thick..pour into molds..cool completely..wrap individually.
When semi cool you can add scented essential oil to your soap as desired..
