    Horehound Cough Drops (candy)

    An age old recipe, very popular in the 1900's for cough drops made from the Herb Horehound.carried in the pockets of many working men during the mid 1900's.Use for cough and sore throat..Some refer to as "Candy"

    List of Ingredients




    2 cups Horehound Leaves
    2 cups Boiling water
    3 cups brown sugar
    1/4 cup butter

    Recipe



    Steep Horehound leaves in boiling water for 1 hour. Strain. Add brown sugar and bring to boil. Add butterand cook until mixture reaches the hard ball stage. Pour into well geased panand mark into sticks or small squareswith a knife as soon as candy is cool enough to retain shape. Wrap individually when cooled..Great for sore throat and cough.
