    Basic Barbecue Sauce

    List of Ingredients




    This recipe will make 2 cups of sauce.
    2 tablespoons peanut oil
    1 yellow onion chopped
    1 celery stalk
    2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
    1/4 cup lime juice
    1 cup ketchup
    3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
    1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
    1/2 cup water
    1/2 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar
    1/4 teaspoon Tabasco® sauce, or to taste.

    In a saucepan over medium heat, warm the oil. Add the onion, celery and saute until soft. Add all the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil, stirring constantly, reduce the heat and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool for 5 or 10 minutes. Puree the cooled sauce in a blender. Store, covered tightly in the refrigerator for a couple days before using. This will keep for about a month in the refrigerator.
