    Fresh Orangeade

    The orange syrup can be kept around for fresh batches of the orangeade.


    List of Ingredients





    Orange Syrup:


    4 cups sugar

    2 cups water

    Zest from 3 medium oranges, cut into thin strips
    Orangeade:


    1 tablespoon Orange Syrup

    1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice

    ¼ cup freshly squeezed orange juice

    4 ounces water or sparkling water
    To make Orange Syrup: In a large heavy pot, combine 4 cups sugar and 2 cups water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring to dissolve sugar. Lower heat to maintain a steady boil. With a brush dipped in water, wash down any sugar crystals clinging to side of the pot. Boil 5 minutes, uncovered, without stirring. Remove from heat and cool briefly. Add orange zest to syrup. Working with half the mixture at a time so you don't splash yourself, pour syrup and zest into a blender and puree. Strain into a clean container. Store in refrigerator until ready to use.

    To make Orangeade: In a tall glass, combine 1 tablespoon Orange Syrup, lemon juice and freshly squeezed orange juice. Stir well and add ice. Top with water or sparkling water.
