    Basic Irish Soda Bread

    List of Ingredients







    4 cups flour of your choosing

    1 teaspoon baking soda

    1 teaspoon baking powder

    salt to taste

    buttermilk (1.5 to 2 cups)


    Instructions
    1.Mix dry ingredients.
    2.Add enough buttermilk to make a decent, workable dough (note: if you use cold buttermilk, the bread will take longer to bake).
    3.Knead until your dough ball is not a sticky mess (less than a minute).
    4.Form into loaf and place on cookie sheet.
    5.Cut a cross into top of loaf.
    6.Bake at 350 till, as James Beard says, the loaf sounds hollow when rapped with knuckles.
    7.Slather with fruit preserves, sandwich fixings or butter
