    You can store the candies for up to one month in a tightly covered dry container

    List of Ingredients




    2 c sugar
    1 c evaporated milk
    1 c dates, chopped
    1 c pecans, chopped
    1 tsp vanilla

    In a heavy med. saucepan over med. heat, cook the sugar and evaporated milk to the soft-ball stage, about 12-14 min. Add the dates and continue to cook until it forms a hard ball, about 8-10 more min. Stir constantly, then remove from the heat and add the pecans and the vanilla. Beat the mixture until it is very thick. Pour it out onto a damp cloth and roll it into a log, about 12-16 inches long and 1 1/2 inches thick. Put into the refrigerator and chill for 25 min. Unroll the cloth and cut the loaf into 1/4 inch circles. Makes about 3 dozen pieces. Excellent for snacks, especially during the winter holidays.
