Buttery Walnut Bar Cookies

Notes:
Chopped pecans, almonds or hazelnuts may be substituted for walnuts.
Ingredients:
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg, separated
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 tablespoon water
1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts
Directions:
1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease jelly roll pan that measures 15-1/2-by-10-1/2-by-1 inches.
2. Mix butter, sugar and egg yolk. Combine flour and cinnamon, then stir into butter mixture, blending well. Pat resulting dough into pan.
3. Beat water and egg white until frothy, then brush onto dough. Sprinkle nuts evenly over dough, pressing them into surface slightly.
4. Bake 20 to 25 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately cut into 3-by-1-inch strips.
5. Store cookies between wax paper in airtight container at room temperature.
