List of Ingredients
Ingredients:
4 cup unsifted flour
1 cup salt
1-1/2 cup water
Do not double or halve recipe. If you need more dough, mix the recipe again. Figures and ornaments should be shaped directly on a baking sheet; moving will spoil them. If they are baked on an aluminum surface, they will turn yellow-brown.
Mix the ingredients with your hands until you have a ball. Knead it on a board for 10 minutes. Place the dough in a plastic bag to keep it from drying and take only what you need to work with.
Suggested implements for imprinting: bottle tops, buttons, costume jewelry, tableware, cookie cutters, spools, rolling pin, meat tenderizing hammer. Use a garlic press or sieve for making hair. Make impressions deep and large, since baker's clay bakes up somewhat the way a cookie does. For hanging ornaments, make the hole or insert a wire hanger before the piece is baked.
Bake in a 300 F oven until the piece is thoroughly dry. It will sound hollow when you tap the back. A piece 3/4 inch thick will will take about 1 1/2 hours. Thicker pieces take much longer and thinner pieces take much less. They will be light colored when done, but will brown if you bake them longer. Cool thoroughly on wire racks.
Figures may be painted with hobby enamel, poster paints, or acrylics. When done, coat the entire piece with clear acrylic
