DO I SMELL BACON?
(Beef and Bacon-Flavored Biscuits)
Ingredients: SMALL* LARGE*
beef broth 1 cup 1 ½ cups
bacon fat 1 Tbl 2 Tbl
brown sugar 1 Tbl 2 Tbl
egg 1 1
salt ½ tsp ¾ tsp
whole wheat flour ½ cup 1 cup
all-purpose flour 2 cups 2 ½ cups
cornmeal ½ cup ¾ cup
oats, uncooked ½ cup ¾ cup
oat bran ¼ cup ¾ cup
brewer’s yeast*** 2 Tbl 3 Tbl
parsley flakes 1 Tbl 2 Tbl
rapid or instant yeast 1 ½ tsp 2 tsp
**bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled 3 strips 5 strips
Place all ingredients in machine and set on dough cycle. Check consistency in 5 to 15 minutes; dough should be a firm round ball. Add flour or liquid if necessary. ** Add crumbled bacon now.
When cycle is over, roll dough out on a board lightly dusted with cornmeal. Dough should be about ¼ inch thick. Cut out treats with cookie cutter. Re-roll dough until all is used. Place treats on nonstick cookie sheets, or cookie sheets lined with parchment baking paper that has been trimmed so edges do not hang over the pan or touch the oven wall.
Bake in preheated 325° F oven for 45 to 55 minutes. Turn off oven and leave treats in oven for 2 to 4 hours before storing in an airtight container.

whole wheat flour 1 cup 1 ¼ cups
all-purpose flour 1 ¼ cups 1 2/3 cups
white cornmeal 2 Tbl 3 Tbl
wheat bran 2 Tbl 3 Tbl
wheat germ 2 Tbl 3 Tbl
potato flakes 1 Tbl 1 ½ Tbl
dry milk powder 2 Tbl 3 Tbl
brewer’s yeast** 2 Tbl 3 Tbl
cinnamon ¾ tsp 1 tsp
nutmeg ½ tsp ¾ tsp

honey 2 Tbl 3 Tbl
salt ½ tsp ¾ tsp
whole wheat flour ¼ cup 1/3 cup
all-purpose flour 2 ½ cups 2 ¾ cups
soy flour ¼ cup 1/3 cup
white cornmeal 3 Tbl 1/3 cup
soy granules ¼ cup 1/3 cup
wheat germ 3 Tbl ¼ cup
dry milk powder 3 Tbl ¼ cup
bewer’s yeast** 2 Tbl 3 Tbl
rapid or instant yeast 1 ¼ tsp 1 ¾ tsp

whole wheat flour ¼ cup 2/3 cup
all-purpose flour 2 cups 2 ½ cups
cornmeal ¼ cup 1/3 cup
oat bran ¼ cup 1/3 cup

MUFFINS
(Vegetarian Dog Biscuits)
Ingredients:
apple juice 1 1/3 cups
egg 1 large
vegetable oil 2 Tbl
brown sugar 2 Tbl
chopped apple ½ cup
salt ½ tsp
whole wheat flour 1 ¼ cups
all-purpose flour 1 ¼ cups
oats, uncooked ½ cup
baking soda ½ tsp
dried orange peel or orange zest 2 Tbl
ground cinnamon 1 tsp
rapid or instant yeast 2 tsp
Place all ingredients in machine and set on dough cycle. After the machine mixes, turn off machine (some machines beep after mixing, but if your does not, check in the middle of the cycle to be sure all ingredients are mixed and turn off machine.)*
Spoon mixture into mini muffin cups. Fill each cup ¾ full.
Bake in preheated 350° F oven for 30 minutes. Cool and store in an airtight container. This recipes makes 28-30 muffins.
*Use the bread machine to mix the batter, or use an ordinary electric mixer.
