    List of Ingredients


    • 2 CUPS FLOUR
    • 1/4 CUP CORNSTARCH
    • 4 TEASPOONS BAKING POWDER
    • 3/4 TEASPOONS SALT
    • 5 TABLESPOONS SHORTENING
    • 3/4 TO 1 CUP MILK
    • 2 CUPS CHOPPED ONIONS
    • 2 TABLESPOONS BUTTER
    • 1/2 TEASPOON EACH PEPPER, SALT AND DRIED MARJORAM
    • 1 CUP SOUR CREAM
    • 1 BEATEN EGG
    • 2 TEASPOONS POPPYSEEDS OR SESAME SEEDS
    • PAPRIKA


    Instructions


    1. PREHEAT AOVEN TO 400°. GREASE A 10" CAKE PAN AND SET ASIDE.
    2. MIX FLOUR, CORNSTARCH, BAKING POWDER, SALT AND SHORTENING UNTIL CRUMBLY. ADD MILK ( BATTER WILL BE STIFF).
    3. IN A SKILLET, COOK ONION IN BUTTER UNTIL GOLDEN. ADD PEPPER, SALT AND MARJORAM.
    4. SPREAD BATTER EVENLY OVER BOTTOM OF PREPARED PAN. SPREAD ONION MIXTURE EVENLY OVER BATTER.
    5. COMBINE SOUR CREAM AND EGG. SPREAD OVER ONION MIXTURE. SPRINKLE WITH POPPY OR SESAME SEEDS OVER TOP. SPRINKLE WITH A LITTLE PAPRIKA AND BAKE FOR 20 MINUTES OR UNTIL DONE.
    6. SERVES 8
