GERMAN ONION BREAD
List of Ingredients
- 2 CUPS FLOUR
- 1/4 CUP CORNSTARCH
- 4 TEASPOONS BAKING POWDER
- 3/4 TEASPOONS SALT
- 5 TABLESPOONS SHORTENING
- 3/4 TO 1 CUP MILK
- 2 CUPS CHOPPED ONIONS
- 2 TABLESPOONS BUTTER
- 1/2 TEASPOON EACH PEPPER, SALT AND DRIED MARJORAM
- 1 CUP SOUR CREAM
- 1 BEATEN EGG
- 2 TEASPOONS POPPYSEEDS OR SESAME SEEDS
- PAPRIKA
Instructions
- PREHEAT AOVEN TO 400°. GREASE A 10" CAKE PAN AND SET ASIDE.
- MIX FLOUR, CORNSTARCH, BAKING POWDER, SALT AND SHORTENING UNTIL CRUMBLY. ADD MILK ( BATTER WILL BE STIFF).
- IN A SKILLET, COOK ONION IN BUTTER UNTIL GOLDEN. ADD PEPPER, SALT AND MARJORAM.
- SPREAD BATTER EVENLY OVER BOTTOM OF PREPARED PAN. SPREAD ONION MIXTURE EVENLY OVER BATTER.
- COMBINE SOUR CREAM AND EGG. SPREAD OVER ONION MIXTURE. SPRINKLE WITH POPPY OR SESAME SEEDS OVER TOP. SPRINKLE WITH A LITTLE PAPRIKA AND BAKE FOR 20 MINUTES OR UNTIL DONE.
