1 CUP SUGAR
DUMPLING DOUGH:
3 TABLESPOONS SHORTENING
1 1/2 CUPS FLOUR
2 TEASPOONS BAKING POWDER
3/4 TEASPOONS SALT
3/4 CUPS MILK
Instructions
HEAT IN A LARGE PAN BLACKBERRIES AND SUGAR UNTIL BUBBLY AND SYRUPY. SET ASIDE, BUT KEEP WARM.
CUT SHORTENING INTO FLOUR, BAKING POWDER AND SALT UNTIL MIXTURE RESEMBLES FINE CRUMBS. STIR IN MILK AND MIX WELL.
DROP DUMPLING DOUGH INTO BERRIES, COOK COVERED UNTIL DUMPLINGS RISE. REMOVE DUMPLINGS ONTO SERVING PLATTER AND DRIZZLE WITH SAUCE.

ANOTHER VERSION THAT MOM WOULD MAKE, IS TO ADD MILK WITH BUTTER INTO A LARGE POT TO COVER THE BOTTOM ABOUT 1" AND COOK UNTIL BUTTER WAS MELTED OVER MEDIUM HEAT, THEN DROP THE DUMPLING INTO THE BUTTER MILK LIQUID, COVER AND ALLOW DUMPLINGS TO RISE. REMOVE TO SERVING PLATTER AND DRIZZLE WITH SAUCE. THIS WAY IS VERY DELICIOUS TOO.
